AUSTIN & YOMBA Baptist Churches
Worldly Mondays are not always geared for excitement, but this one surely is……….. and in reality - every Monday should be starting a week of great joy….. for we know the Lord is in it….. and we ought to look with excitement with an attitude of “what does God have in store for me this week? What opportunities will He provide me to serve?” “How will He reveal Himself to me this week?” “Who will He place before me to “tell the wonderful story” about His Son Jesus?”
My excitement….. I must share………… Yesterday, a young man from Yomba came forward to announce he had accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. HALLELIJAH! He spends a lot of time with his grandparents who has been teaching salvation by living the life of Christ themselves, setting example after example…… and by spending time in the word with he and his brother. “Christian” is his name and now is so fitting. Is there not a message of the importance in how moms/dads and grandparents, even brothers and sisters can infuse the teachings of Christ in the lives of young people, to prepare them to make this most important life decision on their own? That investment in this young man’s life opened the doors of eternity for him. Christian had indicated during VBS that he was ready to make this decision, so we knew God’s Hand was upon him…….. so join us in praising the Lord, join us in praying for this young man and his family and join us in praying for the Yomba reservation, that God will continue reaching into the hearts of His people. Have a blessed day. From the Potter’s Wheel, Pastor Charlie

Is there anything greater than seeing the Lord’s hand on a person, drawing them to Himself, unto salvation? I know of nothing more exciting than to see God work in a person’s life…… and the person being willing to let Him. Yomba VBS is going well. We have had 17-22 kids of all ages this week attending VBS. That is a great turnout. Bob and Stella Johnson have been able to be here to help and the teaching crew of 6 from Emanuel Baptist Church (Highland CA) have done an outstanding job of teaching. It has been a good week, there was one decision today and we sense a couple more may ask Jesus to be their Lord and Savior before the week is out. One young man, asked Jesus to be His Lord and Savior today and wants to be baptized before he has to go back to Carson, so we are having a baptism tomorrow at 2 pm..... Hallelujah! A connection here with this young man is that his grandparents were baptized in the Reece river about a 100yrds from the church. Please pray for these kids and their families. God is Good and He is here are work! From the Potter’s Wheel Pastor Charlie Austin Baptist Church is planning to host VBS on June 21-25, 2010. I anticipate we will have a morning program from 9-12, but that is subject to change.
Chris Miller from Fallon First Baptist Church is planning to bring some from their church to come and present the program for us. Yomba Baptist Church is planning to host VBS on July 19-23, 2010. I anticipate an afternoon program from 2-5, but that too is subject to change. Joshua Shupe from Emanuel Baptist Church and a crew of his teachers from Highland California are planning to return to Yomba again this summer to present the VBS program again. "Father, we praise you for those willing to take time from work, take time from family and expend their own resources to come and minister to far away places. We praise you Father for these Churches who have a heart for missions and are willing to provide the means where they can to reach into far away places with the Gospel. You are such a gracious and awesome God, thank you for Your faithfulness. Protect those that come, give them wisdom in their planning and safety in their travels. In Jesus Name - AMEN!" We look forward to these events and ask that you keep them in prayer. From the Potter's Wheel Pastor Charlie Austin & Yomba Baptist Church's Thursday, October 15, 2009 10:17 AM Progress on the Pastor's apartment is coming along. Kathie and I finished the bathroom this week, a big accomplishment. We are now beginning the clean up of the main floor to see if it will accept a stain. If all goes well, we'll be picking up the kitchen cabinets next week. We see light at the end of the tunnel...hallelujah! Thank you all for the prayerful, physical and financial support that has been given to us. We could not have accomplished this without you. When we finish with the apartment, we will be focusing our remodel efforts on the kitchen. We have had some opportunity to meet some of the people of Austin in a variety of settings. We are planning a Christmas eve candle light service. Have a blessed day! We covet your prayers for this small community. Good Morning to you all.. Many of you have been praying for Kathie and I, for our house to sell - (it did 3 wks ago) -for our move - (we are here) and to get settled in Austin and we are making progress there as well. The house we had in St George was a large house full of stuff. Since we are moving into the single room apartment in Austin, we have discrepancy of space to deal with which we answered by yard sales, giveaway's and temporary storage in St George. Kathie and I have commented that we will never buy another thing... sounds nice and will no doubt last for a time... "but I knows myself too well"... I do believe we will be more discerning in the stuff of the future though. Kathie and want to thank each of you for the prayers you have given on our behalf. They were and are much needed. On the progress of the apartment, we have the bathroom fully functional with shower, sink and stool and will hope to do the tile yet this week in the bathroom. Having a fully functional bathroom seems like a milestone to us. I suspect we'll remember that first shower this week for a long time. Oh how we get spoiled and accustomed to the comforts of modern amenities. Once the tile is done, we will then work on the main room floor to prepare it for concrete staining...hopefully next week. We then will complete the kitchen area. We found a cabinet maker who is overstocked and is making us a better deal than Lowes or Home Depot. They should be ready in a couple of weeks. There continues to be great support from many people in completing this and we thank God for each one of you, the sacrifices you have made in time, resources, and prayer. May God richly bless you. Thank you all, again, for your support and prayers. They are being answered. We covet the love and care behind them as much as how God is answering them.
Please continue to pray for the people of Austin and Yomba, that the Lord will remove those barriers that keeps them from responding to the Lord's call ... From the Potters's Wheel Pastor Charlie Austin / Yomba Baptist Churches

Here is an update on Yomba’s VBS.
Immanuel Baptist Church from Southern California came up (420 miles) last week to help us with YOMBA VBS. The 9 of them stayed at the church sleeping on the floor. It was hot …… and we have no air conditioning so the open windows helped, but also invited a multitude of mosquitoes in for a nightly feast.
We held the VBS at the church on the reservation each afternoon to accommodate some activities the reservation had going during that week. On Monday night we had a potluck for the team and the families who had kids in VBS. We provided the meat consisting of smoked turkey, chicken, pork roast, lamb, beef and Italian sausage, which we ate on the rest of the week. Kathie, myself, John and Norma provided sourdough breakfast on Mon/Weds/Fri.
The team did a great job of decorating and had a great atmosphere for the kids as they came. We ranged from 14 to 19 each day with all ages. We saw the bigger kids helping the younger ones in crafts and other activities. The teaching was very well done. On Wednesday evening, we had a community potluck which was marginally attended. Afterwards, we had a bible study lead by one of the men of the church, then went into a night of singing praises. It was a great evening.
On Friday morning we provided a ¼ sheet of paper that each child checked one or more boxes of where they were spiritually, from “already knowing Jesus” to “needing more information”, to “not ready yet” to “I want to ask Jesus into my heart today”. Several had asked Jesus into their heart in the past. A few stated they were not ready yet. There were 3 who checked that they were ready to ask Jesus into their heart. Our Lord is awesome. We had an adult spend time with each one to ensure they understood what this meant and that it was a true desire and not something being done to please someone else before any prayers were spoken.
Kathie and I stayed with John and Norma Harp, who live in Ione, about 9 miles from Yomba. It is a small old mining town where the only power is by a generator at each home. Even though it is also at 6700+ elevation, it was hot at night until about 2-3 a.m. before it cooled off. The Yomba Reservation opened up other facilities allowing the Immanuel crew to shower and later provided swamp coolers we put into the 2 rooms they slept in. That helped them immensely. We were also able to find some screens that we could adapt to some of the windows to help keep the mosquitoes out.
Friday night, we held a celebration night with a BBQ and had a pretty good turnout. The kids sang the songs they learned and we had opportunity to encourage attendance to Sunday school and regular services. This was a great evening as well with the parents enjoying the songs hearing what the kids had been learning.
Ely First Baptist Church loaned us the use of one of their yard blow ups, an obstacle course and slide which was a hit for the kids. The reservation also loaned us the use of their blowup which was a water slide. Both were well used during the week.
We are already are planning for next year’s VBS with Immanuel BC, most likely during the same time period.
We thank you for all of your prayers. They were much needed. Please continue to pray for the 3 kids who agreed with Jesus that they needed Him in their life. There was one teen girl, a preteen boy and girl. Also, pray for their families. There were many other great things the Lord did with the kids and with the team while we were there. The Lord is at work!

Good evening everyone,
We just finished the Austin VBS last night with 13 in attendance. We had 3 who asked Jesus into their heart this week to be their Lord and Savior. For that we rejoice and Praise the Lord!
Fallon First Baptist Church provided one of their Pastors - Chris Miller, his teachers - Jennifer, Lori and Monica to come and provide the program, which was very well done. We have already made plans for next year.
Pastor Cyle of Ely FBC provided the obstacle course/slide blow ups that were a big hit. See photos. We had a week without rain….Which was really nice.
There kids learned a lot as did those who helped put it on. I am confident of the teaching that took place, resulted in seeds being deeply planted in those kids hearts who did not make the decision to ask Jesus into their heart. They were given the gospel with love and conviction.
Jo and Brenda Story came (from Mesquite) last Sunday and stayed to help out the whole week. They were a great help. The Austin Church provided meals and snacks throughout the week. Great food!
There are many many people and groups who contributed to this event in time, money and resources. Without that support, we would not have had the quality of program that this event turned out to be. Thank you all for what you did.
Please be in prayer for the Yomba VBS starting July 27-31 at Yomba Indian Reservation.
