“Don’t Be Afraid, Mary”

Defining Statement: We have eternal hope in Jesus, and we are called to share that hope with others.

“Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean.  “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, ‘for you have found favor with God!’” Luke 1:29-30 (NLT)

1.    OUR HOPE IS _______________.

The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine. Isaiah 9:2 (NLT)

2.    HOPE SEES ______________ IN THE MIDST OF DARKNESS.

And in another place Isaiah said, ‘The heir to David’s throne will come, and he will rule over the Gentiles.
They will place their hope on him. I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.’”
 Romans 15:12-13 (NLT)

Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.’” John 8:12 (NLT)

3.    LET CHRIST _________ IN YOU, AND _________ THROUGH YOU.

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!  2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)

" My old self has been crucified with Christ.[a] It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20 (NLT)

For God, who said, ‘Let there be light in the darkness,’ has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6 (NLT)

For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!

Ephesians 5:8 (NLT)

4.    DON’T _____________ THE LIGHT.

Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. 1 Peter 3:15 (NLT)

In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:16 (NLT)

What are some simple but practical ways to share hope this season?
